Replacing a Toyota Key
There are several options in the event that you find that your Toyota key fob is damaged. If the internal electronics of your Toyota are in good working order the service center can make a new key at less cost.
If the case is broken, it will probably require replacement. If the case still looks good, you can try to open it with the hidden key or a tiny tool in the notch that is visible. Unlock the case, and then gently lift the circuit board to reveal the battery.
Keys damaged or lost

Toyota offers some of the most sophisticated car keys on the market. Transponder chips communicate with the vehicle and block unauthorized starting. They also secure the engine when the incorrect key is used. They also allow you to lock and unlock your vehicle remotely and also start it. But this added security comes with a cost and the cost of replacing a lost or damaged Toyota key could be hundreds of dollars.
You can determine if your Toyota key is equipped with a transponder chip by looking at the blade of the key. If there is a small dimple or dot on one side, or if the key is marked with an 'H' or marking that means it has transponder. If the key isn't marked at all, or has a large bump at the top, it is an untransponderized key.
The cost of replacing an old metal key is usually less than $50. Key fobs with a transponder chip is greater, since they need to be programmed to communicate with the vehicle's system to lock it. Dealerships can have machines that cost between $150 and $250 to use. In addition the key has to be cut and laser-programmed.

Smart Keys Keys
If you own a Toyota that's equipped with smart key technology you might be able to open the doors and start the engine without taking your keys out of your pocket or purse. Smart keys let you save settings for different drivers, and unlock windows or sunroofs remotely. They may also include the ability to set limits on speed for your teenager when they are driving.
In order to use your smart key, you will have to be within 10 feet of the vehicle. When you're close enough the vehicle will activate the courtesy lights, and open the passenger or driver door. The trunk can be unlocked by pressing the button on the key fob. A lot of modern smart keys feature an adjustable telescoping blade that can be adjusted to fit different hand sizes. This allows you to reach the ignition and lock buttons with greater ease.
Similar to traditional car keys, the smart key fob contains an embedded transponder chip that sends out an encrypted signal when you hit the lock or unlock buttons. It's designed to prevent thieves from hot-wiring or stealing your vehicle by turning off the engine immobilizer. However, there are limitations to this method of protection. A skilled criminal can utilize a scanner to locate the code and send it to an electronic key fob.
A modern smart key like the Mercedes Benz SmartKey uses a unique method known as rolling code. When you put the key in the ignition, a computer in the vehicle checks the unique code prior to starting the engine. This prevents unauthorized use of the vehicle, because it's almost impossible for a scanner to record and send the same code over and over again.
If your smart key isn't responding properly to the unlock or lock buttons, it might have a dead battery. You can replace the battery on most fobs by removing the circuit board from the case. Take a photo of the battery that was used and note the place where the new one is in the case so you can put it back together properly when you're done. The majority of Toyota models require a CR2032 battery, which you can purchase at any local Freehold retailer.

Key Fob Battery Replacement
The process of replacing the battery in your key fob isn't as difficult or time-consuming as it sound. You can purchase replacement batteries from any big-box retailer or hardware stores. You can also buy batteries online. A new battery isn't only affordable, but it will also restore the original function of your key fob.
G28CarKeys is removing the key from the metal. A small metal button is typically located just above the key part of the fob. Press it to release the key. Then, take the fob apart. This can be done by pressing a small notch that looks like a tiny keyhole or by inserting a flat tool into the smallest opening on the fob. Once you have the fob split into two pieces--a front and a back, sliding a tool into the notch or opening will allow you to access the battery compartment.
Look at the battery It is likely to be silver and has the shape of an oval. It will have a marking on it that corresponds with the type of battery you'll need to replace it with. When you receive the new battery, take the old one from its container and replace it with the new. Avoid touching the flat surfaces of your battery. They are extremely sensitive to fingerprints, and can reduce battery life.
Reinstall the key fob case. If you're cautious you shouldn't need to force it back in the position it was in. If it's not snapping into place, apply gentle pressure around the edges to break it off from the plastic frame. Then, you can reattach the key made of metal and turn it on and make sure the fob works properly. The key fob will appear like new once everything is put back together. Key Fob Case Replacement
Toyota key fobs may be somewhat more difficult to lose than standard keys, but you could still be surprised if they disappear on your Belton or Killeen commute. The first thing you have to do is find your Toyota key fob and determine whether it's damaged. If the key fob is damaged to the point of breaking, you will require replacement by a professional dealer to have the transponder chip and other electronic components programmed into your vehicle. This is more involved than simply a replacement key fob. It will require photo identification, proof of ownership, and your vehicle's VIN.
If your key fob's condition is slightly damaged, you may be able to get a new case to keep using the current electronic. It's dependent on the type of damage, for instance water or more severe physical damage. If the key that is hidden is not damaged, you can get a new one at a Toyota service centre and use it.
Using a flat tool like a screwdriver, carefully open the case on your key fob by inserting it into the designated slot or notch. Once you have opened the case, you can lift the circuit board (if necessary) to reveal the battery inside. Be careful not to push the case back because this could cause the electronic components to break. Remove the old battery and record the position of the battery within the case. This will assist you to replace the battery correctly.
